Fusion 360 and Woodworking CNC Machines: A Seamless Workflow

When I first tried as a post-processor developer to connect data between Autodesk Fusion 360 and the native software of an SCM Maestro (or alternatively Biesse bSolid), I realised the enormous gap that traditionally exists between universal engineering tools and specialised joinery software.

Bridging Two Worlds

Woodworking machines rarely run on the clean, raw G-code we know from metalworking. They often require proprietary formats (e.g. .pgmx, .cid, .bpp) that carry information about suction cup layouts, pneumatic stop activation, or machine-specific drilling macros.

What Does a Seamless Workflow Look Like?

A modern integration means the post-processor generates a file that the native shopfloor software (like Maestro or bSolid) can import directly — without the operator having to redefine tools, depths, and strategies from scratch. All technological data is transferred correctly in the background.

This approach gives designers the freedom to create complex, organic shapes and custom furniture in Fusion 360, while the shop floor retains the benefits and safety features of its expensive, specialised machines.

Need a Autodesk Fusion postprocessor for your CNC machine?

Send us your machine details, sample NC code and required output format. We can prepare a custom postprocessor for Autodesk Fusion, including machine-specific cycles, drilling, saw aggregates and 3 to 5 axis machining.
